Lytro: The Start of Something Great or…?

As technology continues to improve and continues to become more affordable, we are seeing more and more filmmakers and photographers who can produce quality work. Now this! The Lytro. Have you heard about it? It’s the amazing new camera that you can focus AFTER you take the photo… holy smokes…! So what does this say for the future…

Above is one of the examples they give for what the Lytro can do. Click anywhere on the photo and it will focus on that point. When I first heard about this and saw this demo a couple of months ago I was completely astounded! I couldn’t help but think about all the times when I had the perfect pictures EXCEPT it just wasn’t focused enough! I, for one, also have the worst concentration sometimes when I’m so invested in shooting, I forget to focus correctly. Haven’t we all been there?

So some professionals are sayings it’s all just bells and whistles. But just like how anyone can buy a DSLR and take a high quality photo, not just anyone can be a great photographer. It’s true that this will not make bad photographers great photographers, but I do think it will make great photographers more stress free photographers! Like I said above, how many of you have taken a photo you wish you had focused correctly?

Starting at $399, I’d be incredibly tempted to buy it if I hadn’t just gotten my Fuji Natura Classica camera (will share pictures soon!) I don’t know about you guys, but I’m just excited to see this technology incorporated with DSLRs… and I bet even smart phones!
